Fully Funded Ph.D Positions Available

The IDOBE (Intelligent Design & Operation for Built Environment) research group at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, is pleased to announce fully funded Ph.D. positions. We are looking for applicants with an MSc degree, at least one published conference paper, or one submitted journal paper and a strong background in engineering disciplines (e.g., mechanical, civil and environmental, electrical, chemical and materials), computer science, or applied math. The IDOBE group focuses on the modeling, design, and operation of sustainable buildings, communities, greenhouses, and their systems, with expertise in the following areas: Thermal (heat transfer) and illumination (natural and electric) Physics-based and data-driven (machine learning, Bayesian estimation) modeling Experimental, theoretical, and application Modular, additive, prefabricated, and robotic construction Energy-efficient, resilient, and sustainable Computational and intelligent design and management Examples of ongoing projects include modeling, design, and operation of building-integrated thermal energy storage, intelligent design and construction of masonry buildings, advanced thermal modeling and calculation of effective thermal resistance, and design and data-driven modeling of hybrid heating systems, among others.
